What this is:

No dog fighting quarterbacks. No prima donnas. No recruiting scandals. No Barry Bonds.
If you look through the Sunday sports pages (because that's the only day you're likely to find it) hungering for that one story that's different, that's not more banal discussion of the overpaid crybabies that play the big three sports in America, this may be your daily fix.
Think of this blog as the sports page for those of us who care about all the other sports.
This is sports writing about the athletes who truly deserve our attention - the rower who fits in workouts between a day job and maybe a night job, chasing an Olympic dream. The judo player who gives up a real job in pursuit of perfection in a sport most Americans never heard of, who'll never have a Sports Center moment. It's for coverage of the game that's the most popular in the world, but can't break into the mainstream media here, the game more Americans play than any other, soccer. It's for those countless athletes who don't get big time contracts or big time coverage, who toil, sweat and sacrifice truly for the love of their game.
